As I finish up my first week of 50 out of 100 lessons in Bremen, Germany, I realize that there are certain elements of voice we can never explain in certain rationalities, voices that break the rules and stimulate the ear to wonder. Some qualities of sound merely appear and teachers of singing must follow them to learn what they are rather than judge them. The longer I do this work, the more I hear oddities that must be accepted as they are un-asked for and often lead to the better sounds; sounds we consider the norm in singing.
